Shalom,
As we absorb the echoes of Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day,) and we revel in the radiance of Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day,) our hearts are filled with a complex blend of joy and solemnity. We celebrate 78 years of sovereignty and the miraculous Return to Zion — yet we are acutely aware that this independence is sustained daily by the Mesirat Nefesh (self-sacrifice) of our heroes on the front lines.
In the Religious Zionist community, this sacrifice takes a unique and literal form: the ‘Soldier-Scholar’ or 'Scholar-Warrior.' Guided by a deep spiritual calling, these men bear a burden far beyond their share of the population. As the data shows, while the Religious Zionist community represents just 14.7% of the general population, they make up a staggering 27.4% of combat reservists.
These are the young men of Hesder and devoted fathers who live the 'Scholar-Warrior' ideal. They are the ones who close their Gemarot (Talmudic texts) to pick up their rifles—moving seamlessly from the spiritual defense of our nation to its physical protection. They are the ones who leave behind families and livelihoods to ensure the survival of our People and our Holy Land.
The Quiet Heroism of the Home Front
While our soldiers are in Miluim (reserve duty), their wives are fighting a battle of their own. For hundreds of days, these women carry the weight of households and finances alone. The price is high: months of separation strain the fabric of marriage, and the long absences of fathers challenge the stability of the home.
HATZADIK.ORG, in partnership with Torah u’Gvura, is committed to ensuring that when our heroes return from the battlefield, they have a strong, vibrant home waiting for them.
How Does Your Partnership Help Them Heal?
Refreshing Love After War: Professional workshops and retreats designed to help couples reconnect and heal after the trauma of long separations.
Holiday Assistance: Direct support for families of student-rabbi reservists who are training for future communal leadership while also serving in the IDF.
Gifts of Encouragement and Appreciation: Letting wives and children know they are seen. As one mother of five shared: "Amidst the sirens and the solo parenting, receiving a beautiful holiday gift reminded me we are part of something bigger... you are sending us strength."
In honor of this Yom HaAtzmaut, do more than wave a flag. Be the strength behind the front lines.
$360 – Sponsor a couple’s Healing Marriage Retreat
$180 – Provide a Holiday Assistance Grant for a family in need
$72 – Send a Gift of Appreciation to a reservist’s wife
